The Revolution Betrayed

Has the “Liberty” r3VOLution Ron Paul started been hijacked by the Neo-Cons?

“When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”
– Sinclair Lewis

If you attended or heard about the Tea Parties that took place on Tax Day, April 15th, you probably know they were very well populated. Some grew into huge gatherings in downtown metros across the nation that formed into seas of humanity, such as the rally held in San Antonio where it was reported that up to 8,000 people convened in Alamo Plaza; complete with the aged limestone brick of the Alamo serving as the backdrop for the live national broadcast of Glen Beck’s Fox News program.

There is no doubt that the tens of thousands of concerned Americans that took to the streets in cities around the country on Tax Day, was an impressive display of raw American spirit and a colorful peaceful protest to witness. The S.A. tea party was no exception.

Different factions of people and political groups who supported Liberty in general decided to make an appearance at the historic grounds of the Alamo. A good number of Ron Paulites appeared, an End-the Fed crowd had a good showing, people dressed in American revolutionary era dress added historic surrealism, several Alex Jone’s people handing out the “Obama Deception” ( a questionably described disinformation propaganda disk), but the overwhelming majority of the “patriots” and newly identified “constitution lovers” where made up of an older crowd.

This “older crowd” was middle and upper middle class suburban soccer moms and dads who brought their kids with them, some to hold up signs reading “I don’t have a job and I am already in debt”. This “older crowd” also came in the form of evangelical Christians passing out literature, as well as the anti-immigrant, anti-Obama, ultra nationalist, and the staunch pro-gun crowd who loved the idea of the Gadsden Flag with those infamous words, “Don’t tread on me”.

I say “Older Crowd” because for the past two years, as I have been following the Ron Paul R3VOLution, I have always taken pride in the fact that there always so many young people attending the rallies.

This diverse youth of all colors and backgrounds used the alternative media via the internet exclusively, found out about and networked on the internet in order to gain awareness about Mr. Paul, and the events associated with his cause. This youth I speak of is the 18-35 year old demographic, the usual crowd of the Ron Paul events in the past had the majority of the people in this age group.
The youth is important because it is full of new ideas, and can apply the ideas they formulate in their young minds for a lifetime to come. I truly believed the idea of Liberty and the return to the Constitution would have been led by the youth in this country, not the old hard lined Republican Party led by the Neo-Cons who gave us war, deficit spending, the Patriot Act, and the overall trampling of the Constitution for the past eight years of Bush.
My question throughout the event was this:

Where were these people when Bush trampled the constitution with the Patriot Act? Where were these people when America was torturing innocent people? Where were these people when we unconstitutionally went to war with Iraq? Where were these people when Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke were letting the printing presses run wild at the Fed during the housing bubble?

The answer is the evangelical right supports the War in Iraq, and can care less about the Federal Reserve or those other issues.

To put this in perspective, the event was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The first half an hour consisted of the pledge of allegiance, the national anthem, the singing of America the beautiful, and a 10 minute long prayer led by a radio talk show host. If this was really about the issues, would they not get strait to business, I mused. I could not shake that eerie feeling I felt when I saw, heard and experienced this political aura blended with religion and politics.

Because I was trying to capture footage for with my camcorder, I roamed around the praying crowd, while most everyone stood in silence with their heads bowed for minutes on end, listening to a “prayer” full of patriotic references to Benjamin Franklin, and visions of the American myth.

As I was walking through the crowd, it hit me, the mainstream media, working through Fox News,  has been able to take the sentiment against the growing government‘s intervention and manufacture the packaged opposition in to what we saw last Wednesday.
In other words, we have just met the controlled opposition to Obama, I ‘am just not sure if it will remain controlled , and I ‘am not sure which team to join, if any as of right now.
